I updated this DIY and made it into an aromatherapy car diffuser since I do not use keychains much- you can check it out here!
Recently, I co-hosted an event with a local group called Her Slice of the Cake, the event provided information on Buying Your First Home with Claire Konkos Realty, I was in charge of cocktails and a snack and then because I am extra, I thought making a cute keychain for everyone to take home would be a fun takeaway. I love the macrame rainbows all over etsy and wanted to make a keychain version. I checked out this tutorial from Pure Sweet Joy and changed it up a little (I cannot sew and I did not need to use the tape at end parts because the rainbow is so small)
The girls want to make these as Christmas ornaments too! I think that is such a cute idea and they came up with it on their own!
Material List:
3 colors of yarn
Wooden Beads (14 mm)
Stainless Steel Wire
Rope (my rope is pink, because I had dyed it for another DIY- copper hanging planter)
Glue
Scissors
Keychain Rings (not pictured, I forgot to include them in photo, sorry!)
Steps:
Make arches for the rainbow with the long rope and cut into three arches (I chose 3, you could do more, but the keychain will get bigger and bigger)
Cut the wire a little bit shorter than the individual arches.
Tie a knot on one end (I double knot all the knots) and begin to wrap the yarn around the wire and the rope and repeat until each arch is covered (leaving the frayed part undone for the “cloud”) Tie a knot at end and cut excess yarn.
.
Tie a long piece of yarn to the top arch before glueing all three together. I like to cut more length than I will need, so I don’t screw it up, haha, you can always trim later.
I cannot sew, so I used glue for the rainbow arches, you could also sew them together.
Thread the wooden beads on top, I used 3 wooden beads. Tie keychain ring onto the yarn and I dabbed a bit of the glue as well on yarn and keychain.
The rainbows set up at event =) I also DIY’d the wooden rainbow hook, you can check it out on blog!
